Liberation is fully self-supporting for sailing day and night and for laying at anchor for extended periods of time if desired. Power needs are fully served through a recently installed lithium battery system with 400Ah Winston cells, supported by a smart battery management system. Of course shore power can be used when available, but there is also a 4kVA generator and a 1.6kw invertor on-board. The battery bank is capable of running all the basic domestic needs on anchor for several days. The fresh water capacity was enlarged with the addition of a 2nd water tank under the forward berth to give 360 litres of fresh water availability.
Liberation sails like a dream up-wind and down – she will point easily at 40 degrees (and sometimes less) and flies in a close haul and close reach sail set – maximum hull speed around 8 knots, which is often achieved even when fully loaded. On engine, the cruising speed is around 6 knots @ 1900 rpm. Liberation also benefits from SidePower electric bow-thrusters, and Quick electric windlass with chain counters (at the bow and the helm), a 29.5kg Mantus anchor with 100m of 8mm grade 70 galvanised chain, a custom made stainless steel stem striker plate, and custom made bow roller and rigging to accommodate the anchor and the Parasailor sheets. and she comes with a full canvas package as well as Duradeck (artificial teak) on all deck surfaces, cockpit and swim platform.
A 3.2m hard-shell dinghy with 20hp Yamaha outboard, extensive high-end electronics and home standard domestic appliances including a full-size Siemens washing machine, make Liberation a delight to sail and live aboard. The current owners spend half the year sailing and the boat was designed and set up to be a proper home with no need for compromise – a lot of thought and care has been taken to design for convenience and comfort without compromising the fun of sailing.

The double access to the engine room provides for easy maintenance and access to filters, impellors, dipstick and oil sump.
An oil change pump is on-board for easy oil extraction of both engine and generator.
The engine bay is completely clean and free of oil or any other fluid deposits
GENERATOR
The Paguro 4000 (4kVA) Generator has approximately 1600 hours on the clock and has been fully maintained as per the manufacturer’s recommendations with a full service history available. It has been rebuilt/reconditioned in 2019 including a new cylinder head and complete replacement of the electrical generation side. It is mounted on a custom designed stainless steel frame with anti-vibration rubber mountings. Apart from efficient use of space, the generator installed here also benefits from the sound proofing that is provided by the engine room. Coupled with the water separator, this means the generator is as quiet as possible and can hardly be heard outside – a custom designed exhaust deflector ensures less fumes reach the cockpit. The generator has a remote control panel which is located above the chart table desk.
The engine room also houses dual intake sea strainers for the generator – they are located at the front of the bay so can easily be checked and removed for cleaning.

All the underwater gear is in perfect condition without any incidents and has been fully maintained as the boat has been lifted to hard standing over the winter.
SUMMARY
The accommodation in Liberation is spacious and airy, ideal for a cruising couple:
- Two double cabins - owners version
- Open plan saloon and galley
- Exceptional head facilities with separate shower room
- Lazarette/utility room
- Spacious cockpit
The interior is fully air-conditioned in all cabins with 28,000 BTU capacity from two independent Webasto Reverso units which also provide hot air heating. There are extensive power sockets, both 12v and 220v in all cabins and for night sailing the boat is equipped with red/white LED lights throughout which are all individually controllable and dimmable.
FORWARD CABIN (MASTER)
The master cabin is forward with a large V-berth – the current owner is 6’2” and has plenty of space to sleep comfortably. A smaller person can sleep horizontally in the width if desired. The cabin has ample storage with large wardrobe/shelved double cupboards, seating on both sides with lockers underneath and shelving at each side of the bed. A crash chamber in the bow provides protection with the chain locker being separated from the cabin by two bulkheads and the space is used to house a large digital safe. There is access through the hatch into the chain locker making it easy to deal with any chain tangles or to wash out the locker. The forward v-berth bed has a custom made, luxury multi-layer foam mattress with a memory foam integrated topper. The mattress has a removable/replaceable/washable quilted cover and is in two sections, zipped together. In addition, the original brand new Bavaria foam mattress can be available if required (not currently on the boat). At the foot of the bed on an adjustable bracket is a Samsung 24” flat screen LCD TV with HDMI cabling to the chart table (allows for projection of the navigation system to the TV if required)
AFT CABIN
The aft cabin has a very large double bed area, but with 50% of the space being low underneath the cockpit deck and an odd shape. It is a comfortable space for guests with a double wardrobe locker, seat, under seat locker and shelving. The guest cabin has never been used other than for storage and a brand new mattress cover will be fitted on sale. From the guest cabin there is access to the technical area in the aft section of the boat under the helm area where the steering column, autopilot and various other electrical/electronic units are installed. There is also a removable panel to the engine room giving easy access on two sides to the engine and generator. Access on the 3rd side is also possible by removing a panel in the shower cubicle.
Custom made bed linen and quilts from "Nauteriors" is provided in both cabins and will remain with the boat. The aft cabin linen has never been used.
SALOON
The saloon is equipped with a U-shape sofa and large sized dining table, with cream leatherette coverings and Ocean Line wood interior floor. The interior is teak veneer throughout and has been upgraded at the factory with faux leather cream head-linings and white laminate board wall coverings. The current owners adjusted the standard Bavaria layout by removing the additional bench which is normally between the table and galley as it limits access to the galley and restricts the walkway. This enabled the table to be moved slightly forwards towards the galley giving more space to sit down behind. There are storage lockers under each seating area and technical cubbyholes behind housing the invertor, engine battery charger and alternator to battery charger. Under the TV you’ll find a drinks cabinet with cut-outs for bottles and there is also a bottle carrier underneath the table. Wall cupboards run along the length of the saloon and a 32” Samsung flat screen LCD TV is fitted flush to the wall. The TV has HDMI connections to the PC and/or navigation system as required and is connected to a Glomex marine TV antenna. The compression post for the deck-stepped mast is cleverly worked away into the wall between the forward cabin and the saloon – so the lack of the traditional “dancing pole” in the saloon makes for a much more spacious area.
GALLEY
On the portside, you will find the galley which runs the length of the saloon area, with black worktops, including matching insets for the two sinks, integrated fridge hatch and a bi-fold cover for the hob. It is therefore possible for the entire run to be used as a worktop if needed. The galley has ample storage with wall cupboards along the length, a large under sink cupboard and a 2nd full size cupboard as well as a small shelved cupboard in front of the fridge. The spacious Dometic fridge is top loading, offering plenty of chilled storage space and a custom-made stainless steel retainer bar holds the sink covers securely and out of the way when not in use. The galley is equipped with a gimbal 3-ring gas hob and oven, with cupboards underneath, in addition to a semi built-in microwave oven. A grab rail runs the whole length of the galley for safety underway. The boat will come complete with the galley inventory.
CHART TABLE/OFFICE AREA
To the starboard side at the foot of the companionway is a compact chart-table which doubles as a proper office area. While it has the usual lift up chart table storage, there are also cupboards above and storage under the chart table fixed seat as well as a shelf with retainer. The office area is equipped with a 20” HP2011X 12v standard office monitor which is secured with a multi-way swivel bracket, allowing it to be fully adjustable and swivel away when not in use. There is also space for a small laser printer as well as shelving for books and general materials. The monitor will remain with the boat. Underneath the chart table is a dedicated shelving area for a compact PC (not included) and all network cabling and peripheral equipment will remain in place to allow a new owner just to plug in. The chart table is served with all NMEA navigation data with an Actisense USB gateway.
Please see below under "navigation equipment" for a detailed specification of the equipment included.
HEAD and WATER SYSTEMS
For a boat of this size Liberation boasts a very impressive head! There is a separate large shower room with a proper door, varnished teak floor rack, shower seat with locker underneath and a powerful shower head, thanks to the upgraded water pump and accumulation tank. A roof hatch with fly-screen provides ventilation for the steam and there are also water-tight hatches for inspection access to the plumbing and the lazarette. The WC has been replaced with a full household size, fresh water, ceramic flush fitted toilet which is emptied into the black water holding tank (accessed behind a panel in the shower room). The bathroom also boasts a large sized double medicine/toiletries cupboard as well as a vanity unit sink with a lit mirror, power socket for your hairdryer and storage underneath. There’s even a set of bathroom scales in a custom-made rack and of course the toilet roll holder. The on-board water system is served by an upgraded Jabsco pump with accumulator tank, which guarantees substantial water pressure at all taps and is fully adjustable. Grey water is directly overboard at all locations by gravity except in the shower where there is an overboard pump with switch at the shower console. The black water system consists of a 60 litre holding tank which has both deck pump out when serviced at pumping stations as well as overboard when at sea. The system has been fully overhauled and re-designed to remove the blockage issue which Bavaria are known for with their standard gravity system. The toilet has a macerator which deals perfectly with normal household toilet paper and human waste, the tank has a Jabsco bellows pump for overboard. An isolator valve at the bottom of the tank allows any blockages or maintenance of the pump to be easily and cleanly dealt with - the tank exit can be closed off and the pump removed with minimal leakage. In addition, to maintain the system in the best possible state, a seawater tank flush pump is connected at the top of the black water tank – after emptying, the tank can be flushed with sea-water to keep it clean. Access to the tank is very easy through an inspection panel. At the end of every season since the boat was new the black water tank has been opened and thoroughly cleaned to restore to new condition as part of winterisation. Hot water is provided by a 20 litre immersion tank located under the floor in the lazarette which operates both on 220v power and a heat exchanger on the engine.
COMPANIONWAY
The companionway stairs are not too steep and have safety rails on both sides and shaped steps to assist when heeling. They lift to give full access to the engine room and generator. The companionway has two opening teak/perspex doors which can be bolted from the inside and lockable from the outside. Together with the sliding perspex lid, this gives a significant amount of natural light into the below-decks area and avoids the need for storage of a “washboard” as is the case on many yachts. There are also numerous port-holes and large and small roof hatches, making this a very light and airy boat. All opening hatches and portholes have blackout OceanAir roller blinds and the roof hatches also have sliding fly-screens.
COCKPIT
Passing up the companionway you enter the very large cockpit area which is extremely comfortable to sit when at anchor or underway with the benches long enough for our 6’2” captain to fully stretch out his legs on either side. A varnished teak centre table with folding flaps opens up into a massive cockpit dining and entertainment area with enough space for 6 people to comfortably sit around the table and eat a proper meal. The table has lift-up lids with storage underneath and the cockpit area is fitted with several 12v and 220v power sockets (external) inside and outside the table which were designed for the electric barbecue plate and charging of personal appliances. There is also a heavy-duty external 12v socket which is used for a diving compressor and drink holders.
Liberation comes with a full set of custom made cushions for the cockpit benches and external quality scatter cushions from Nauteriors. There is a decent hot/cold transom shower and a small basin in the aft area, together with a sturdy swim ladder for access to the water, which has a fixed stowage place in the lazarette when not in use. Drinks holders and sockets for your USB charging, as well as courtesy lighting at floor level, at the table and above, complete the relaxation mode of the cockpit – day or night. The cockpit area is covered with a high quality Nauti Sattler canvas bimini and sprayhood with windows which were all replaced in 2018. The full bimini comes in two sections and is fully adjustable. There are also custom-made zip-in canvas sections to close the gap between the sprayhood and bimini as well as sun protective zip-in netting sections for the sides and the aft. Together they provide a fully enclosed cockpit for bad weather as well as sun protection when laying at anchor. The netting is attached to the bimini by zips and remain in place all season as they roll up into custom made fixings when underway. The custom-made "winter" canvas set is also included with the boat with covers for all winches, hatches and furling gear - as well as the cockpit table and companionway door.
LAZARETTE/UTILITY ROOM
The two cabin owners’ version of the Bavaria 40 Cruiser has a huge lazarette. By removing the 3rd cabin typically found on the charter models, the large separate shower room mentioned above becomes possible as well as a utility room/lazarette which is accessed from the cockpit, using the swim ladder in its stowed position. You could be fooled into thinking was just another cockpit locker – but it’s an Aladdin’s Cave of equipment which makes Liberation the home that it is! In here you will find the following gadgets, all of which are included in the price:
- Full-size domestic Siemens 4.5kg washing machine, fixed into a surround on a re-enforced floor
- Waeco freezer (12v/220v)
- Ice maker (220v)
- Built-in Karcher jetwash machine (220v) which has an external socket in the cockpit for the hose (so no running hose pipes and power lines) – soap dispenser and lance
- 3 part - 2.5 meter folding Interra composite gang-way/passarelle with trapeze and flush deck mounts on the top of the transom platform (when closed) and on the deck (when the platform is open).
- Custom fit toolbox and contents – a full list of tools included can be provided on request
- Vacuum cleaner
- 3 spare gas bottles
These are all secured in custom made retaining compartments to prevent any movement at sea and to optimise the use of the space. Along with extensive storage and shelving for oil and other spare parts, the lazarette is the ultimate “garage on-board”. The lazarette hatch can be opened from the inside for safety as well as being lockable with a padlock on the outside. Starboard side of the cockpit there is also a large rope locker for storage of the usual boat gear.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
Liberation has been designed in a way that there is no need for the usual concerns about power conservation while on the water. Although of course there are limitations and these need to be understood, all the equipment on board will run without shore power, and in a “normal” working situation of domestic consumption laying on anchor the boat can run for several days without power top-up. Both 12v and 220v consumption is monitored and visible at the chart-table and a new owner will quickly learn the combinations of devices which can be operated at one time – switching devices on and off to manage the power is very easy from the chart-table controls where both the monitoring screens and the DC and AC switches are located.
The electrical system consists of:
• 220v AC shore-power supply – three way switch at the chart table (generator, shore-power, off)
• Standard Bavaria 12v labelled electrical control panels with fuses and switches
• Paguro 4000 4kVA generator with control panel at the chart table
• 1.6kw DC/AC invertor which will automatically cut-in to take over the AC circuit when power from the generator or shore supply is lost (saves changing all the clocks every time!) – most electrical equipment on-board will run from the invertor if necessary, with the exception of the air-conditioning system and washing machine
• 400Ah lithium Winston cells in one DC bank @ 12v
• 2 x 60A Sterling AB12210 smart battery chargers
• REC battery management system and DC power monitor (at chart table) to manage the charging, balancing and safety of the lithium battery bank
• Small solar panel – not currently used
• AC and DC power monitors (at chart table)
• Separate engine start AGM battery and charger – new 2018
• Extensive power socket network for both AC and DC supply in all areas – in addition to those in permanent hard wired appliances such as the TV’s and others systems
• Lighting system from Prebit with LED red/white lights throughout the boat – all individually switchable and dimmable
• Under cupboard white courtesy lighting
• Integrated desk lamp with red/white LED at the chart table
• Reading lamps with white only bulbs
AIR CONDITIONING and HEATING
The cabin interior is fully served by air-conditioning by way of two Webasto Reverso combined units with air ducting throughout the boat. The total capacity is 28,000 BTU from the two units – the forward cabin has its own unit and control panel and the rest of the boat is served from a unit in the saloon. The aft cabin is part of the main saloon system, but has an isolator vent which can close off when the aft cabin is not in use. The air-conditioning has reverse-air heating capability as well as cooling and will provide warm air when the temperatures fall a little, switching automatically from cooling to heating as necessary based on room thermostats. Both air conditioning units will operate from the generator at the same time or, of course, from shore power.
DINGHY and DAVITS
The unusual curved davits with built-in winches lift the 3.2 m hard-shell Novomar 320 dinghy on board in a flash, together with its 20hp 4-stroke outboard Yamaha engine – no more trouble with hoisting engines on and off on Liberation! With the help of the Winchrite device, this requires almost no effort at all. The davits track the dinghy in as she is lifted to fit snuggly against the arms – this arrangement has been used in seas up to 2-3m without any problems. The dinghy engine has less than 40 hours on the clock and has been maintained according to Yamaha specifications. The dinghy was built by Novomar in Slovenia and is a combination of hypalon and neoprene for the strongest and lightest combination – it weighs approximately 55kg without the engine, which itself weighs around the same amount. The "Oval15 ZERO" davits are manufactured by Cooney Simpson in the UK and have a safe working load of 150kgs per pair – which allows a little leeway for the equipment on board in the chain locker. They come with stainless steel dedicated winches and heavy duty line (new in 2019) and a spare set of lines.
The davits are mounted using stainless steel shoes attached to the transom. The shoe mounting has been professionally re-enforced to strengthen the interior fixings inside the boat and the transom. The davits can be easily swivelled or removed if required by removing 6 hexagon bolts – ideal for over winter to reduce the length of the boat for storage.
The dinghy itself was highly customised and adapted professionally in Croatia and Greece with extensions fitted to match with the davits and protect the engine as well as re-enforcement added for the davit pick-up points. In addition, a bimini frame was manufactured to design and this remains on the boat unless it is in storage for the winter, as it also fits within the frame of the davits. “Tender to Liberation” is a planing dinghy – it’s possible to water ski behind it if you are a smaller, lighter person. It is ideal for those beach trips, exploring the island day trips and shore visits when staying at anchor. The fixed bimini provides shade, and there’s plenty of space for carrying the shopping on a large provisioning trip (although don’t expect it to get on the plane then!). The shaft is fitted with a lift plate to ease faster planing. The dinghy also has battery operated navigation lights which fix on the bimini frame for safe use at night.
DECK EQUIPMENT and MOORING
On the starboard side of the cockpit is a large locker which is deep into the sides of the hull so has plenty of space for storage of all the mooring lines, spare fuel, water hoses, cables, fluids, snorkelling gear and all the other paraphernalia there is on a boat. The locker can be closed with a padlock for security and has a safety opening mechanism on the inside should anyone be locked in there. A fire extinguisher to serve the external areas is provided in this locker.
There are a total of 6 Lewmar winches in the cockpit with all lines running back:
• 4 x Lewmar EVO self-tailing manual winches – 2 at the companionway (mainsheets) and 2 aft for the cruising chute lines or the genoa track control lines
• 2 x Lewmar EVO electric genoa winches – amidships – for the genoa sheets or cruising chute sheets
To assist with the manual winches, there are two manual winch handles in mounted holders and a “Winchrite” electric winch assistant which powers the manual winches. This is mainly used for the dinghy davit winches but can be used in any manual winch. The side decks provide clear access to the forward deck area and bow with all horizontal decks are fitted to Duradeck artificial teak with black caulking which does not discolour and can be easily maintained and even jet-washed. There are 6 stainless steel deck cleats and fairleads, jackstays along the coach roof and hook-up points for safety at various locations from bow to aft. A new stainless steel guardrail all around has replaced the standard Bavaria plastic coated cable, and there are side gates at the cockpit on both sides of the boat to allow easy boarding when moored alongside.
In front of the mast is a small solar panel which will remain on the boat – although this is no longer used as its purpose was trickle charging the previous AGM batteries over winter, before the Lithium bank was installed. At the bow is access to the chain locker and a Quick electric windlass with chain counter with 100m of 8mm grade 70 galvanised chain and a 29.5kg Mantus anchor. The bow roller has been modified and custom built to handle both the anchor and the rigging required for the Parasailor. The forward deck is served by a deck flood light controlled from the chart table, and of course there are the required navigation lights all around.
Extra equipment included in the sale will be:
• 29.5kg Mantus anchor (new in 2018)
• 100m coloured floating line for shore lines when anchored in small spaces
• Boat hook
• A selection of spliced and non-spliced mooring lines
• 2 x dock shock springs and chain
• 2 x chain counter remote control handsets – one in the cockpit and one at the bow

• Seago rescue system
• Electric “Winchrite” for powering of manual winches – mainly used for the dinghy davit winches
• Winch handle buckets at the companionway and helm
• 7 blue torpedo fenders and 2 ball fenders, with lines
The mainsail is relatively large with a long boom, and a gas-rod kicker with in-mast mainsail reefing and genoa foresail furling from Selden. The boat is fitted with 82m2 Elvstrom laminated high tech offshore sails with UV strip. The sails were professionally cleaned, checked and stored over winter. In addition, the yacht comes with a Parasailor 105m2 cruising chute for downwind days (which can still point up to 70 degrees if needed) with a snuffer and easy launch system as well as permanent custom made rigging. Lastly, in terms of sails, for stability at anchor, Liberation also comes with a Fin Delta riding sail to hold her in the wind on anchor, which also has custom made fittings for easy deployment.
The Bavaria rigging uses a dual main-sheet arrangement and thus has no traveller – takes a bit of getting used to but very effective and safe in preventing accidental jibe when properly used. The current owners changed the original rigging of the boat to run everything back to the cockpit for safe operation, so genoa track cars (of the type used on the Bavaria Sport race boat) can be released and reset from the cockpit and all other lines including the three halyards are winched from the cockpit – no need to go forward for anything other than a mechanical problem, or to prepare the Parasailor chute. There are six Lewmar winches in the cockpit – two manual at the companionway (for the mainsheets), two manual aft (for the genoa track lines or the Parasailor lines) and two electric winches in the centre (for the genoa sheets or Parasailor sheets and furling line), in addition to the dedicated winches for the davits. In conjunction with the auto-pilot, Liberation is easy to sail single handed.

The Bavaria 40 Cruiser has two helm positions enabling comfortable sailing on either tack, with composite sports steering wheels at both helm stations. On Liberation, however, it’s not just the wheels which were doubled up – the entire auto-pilot and navigation systems can be viewed and controlled from either side as well as duplicate controls for the electric winches. There is a Scanstrut pod fixed on the cockpit table and this houses the top-end Furuno TZT14 MFD chart-plotter – it can be swivelled 360 degrees, as well as up and down, to any desired angle allowing the boat to be piloted from either wheel and also from sitting comfortably on the main cockpit seating area instead in good weather when running on auto-pilot. The Furuno TZT14 includes the TimeZero navigation software – a new owner will need to purchase a licence for the charts (which can be shared with the PC navigation system below deck). The navigation system was designed and installed by the owners using a mix of manufacturers to combine the equipment which was provided as part of the original Bavaria specification with best-in-class at the time for other devices. The Garmin equipment was supplied with the boat and commissioned by the factory. The Furuno network was owner installed but commissioned and certified by Furuno after installation (certificate available). There is therefore a combination of Furuno, Garmin and Digital Yacht, with other specialist suppliers for certain devices.
There are two navigation stations – one at the helm and one below at the chart table. The ability to use the chart-table navigation integrated with the helm station would require a new owner to purchase a compact PC and TimeZero PC navigation software.

The network and internet is managed by a Huawei Mobile and Wi-Fi modem/router which works with a mobile data SIM card as well as being connected to a Wi-Fi booster and 3G/4G signal booster on the mast. The router creates a personal on-board Wi-Fi hot-spot for wireless devices. A PC can be simultaneously connected to the router for internet, the NMEA2000 network backbone via an Actisense gateway for navigation data and the Furuno Navnet for radar overlay and integration with the helmstation chart plotter. The chart table area is the central control for all other systems on the boat – the control panels for all the on-board systems are fitted at the chart table as well as the main VHF radio and power switches. It also houses the car style built-in audio system which has a CD/radio and USB jackplug for an MP3 player through built in speakers in both the saloon and the cockpit.
