Paul and Cathy Savva bought Carryou in Spain in 1998 and renamed her Mia Hara. Although she was still in excellent condition, apparently having seen little use, Paul and Cathy carried out a major refurbishment. They sailed for four years before living on Mia Hara in Nikiana, while they built a house on Levkas.
We bought Mia Hara in 2006, since when, until lockdown, we have sailed her every summer, mostly in Greece, with family and friends. (For details of our travels you can see our blog at miahara.blogspot.com). We left the Ionian in 2009, as it was already so crowded, and have been based on Leros since 2010.
Over the years we have made improvements, additions, replacements and repairs to Mia Hara to keep her in top condition. She has suffered no major damage since we have owned her (a charter boat bent a stanchion, which we have not straightened for fear of breaking it), but the original engine seized over the winter of 2012, so we took Mia Hara to Marmaris to replace the engine and, as it turned out, carry out a major renovation, including a new gantry, all new standing rigging, new windows and forehatch and a full survey (available).
We bought a Moody 422 because we thought it was the perfect boat for our sort of cruising (given that we couldn’t afford a Scandinavian yacht). Our years sailing her have amply confirmed that view. She is sturdy, stable, safe and comfortable. She is heavy, so she needs a bit of wind to get going, but she can handle anything, without any alarms.
They really don’t build boats like this any more!
Unfortunately, we have not weathered as well as Mia Hara, so we have decided to stop sailing before it gets too much for us and, very reluctantly, to sell Mia Hara.
Mia Hara is in excellent condition and is superbly equipped for Mediterranean Cruising. She was Coppercoated in 2010, which was refurbished in 2022 and is still effective. She had a major refit in 2013, including a new Yanmar 4JH5E engine, all new standing rigging, new bimini, gantry, fuel tank, solar panels, hot water tank and holding tank (with pump out), watermaker, Brunton's Autoprop, saloon windows refitted. (2013 survey available). Lithium domestic battery system new 2022.
